In July, Team GWE headed to France for three weeks to jump at Fontainebleau and Le Touquet. Horses, grooms, riders and owners enjoyed a very successful European trip, with many placings and good performances from horses and riders stepping up a level together.
Fontainebleau First Week
The week kicked off with a terrific win for Lowri Ball in the 1.20cm. A foot perfect
round on Gayle White’s Kandia VDB. There was also lots of success for the team in the fun evening classes, Lowri came 2nd in the ride and drive (– no mean feat in a left hand drive!) riding Gina Gray’s Christina III. Freya Mileham and Millie Hockenhull took part in the very fast Dada battle with Millie winning for the girls. riding Virginia Sutton’s Marco Polo du Preai. A great night was had to top off the weekend at the beach party!
Fontainebleau Second Week
The second Grand Prix Classic at Fontainebleau today and it was another good performance from the team. Gayle White was 7th on Jo Linton’s Gwendyane in the 1.15m, with the mare making so much progress. Lowri Ball and Kandia VDB, and Freya Mileham on Pauldary's Cloud Nine both qualified for Sunday's 1.25m Grand Prix. Lowri also qualified Christina III for Sunday's 1.35m Grand Prix. Sasha Izmestieva was also placed on Easy Choice with a lovely double clear in the 1.10m.
On the second day Lowri Ball rode a cracking round to finish a brilliant 2nd on Kandia VDB in the 1.15m derby. Also well done to Freya Mileham on Pauldary's Cloud Nine, well placed in the 1.20m.
The final day of Fontainebleau yielded some excellent results to finish up a successful trip, Superb quick riding from Freya Mileham and Pauldary's Cloud Nine meant they finished 2nd in the 1.20m Grand Prix.
Also excellent riding from Millie Hockenhull on Marco-Polo de Preai finishing 7th with Gayle White also placing 12th on Gwendyane at the mare's first international show, both in the 1.20m Grand Prix.
The horses travelled well to Le Touquet, and all passed the trot up looking fabulous thanks to the hard work of all the grooms. They went for a group loosener on the beach after setting up the previous night. With 40+ mph winds expected for the jumping conditions were not ideal!.
In a super start to Le Touquet, Freya Mileham jumped a very stylish double clear to finish 11th in the strong 1.20 GP qualifier on her own Pauldarys Cloud Nine. Lowri Ball jumped another class round on Gayle White's Kandia VDB to be the only British rider in the line up to come 4th, qualifying for the Grand Prix. Jo Linton's Gwendyane is improving all the time jumping the same class. Great riding from all the team and super turn out of all the horses. Thank you Maddie Melia and Kali Latchev.
On the second morning Millie Hockenhull and Marco Polo du Preai finished 7th in the 1.20 & qualified for the 1.25 Grand Prix on Sunday.
In a fabulous conclusion to our Tour de France with Lowri Ball coming 2nd in the CSI1* 1.25 riding Gina Gray's Christina lll followed by an incredible win in the 1.25 Grand Prix jumping two superb clears on Gayle White's Kandia Van de Brouwershoeve. Congratulations - brilliantly ridden!
